About
Hawk Mentors is an organization that works to de-stigmatize the discussion about mental health. Mental health can be a big concept for an 8 year old, so we start by putting it into simpler words - a healthy mind. Our goal is to open a conversation about ways to properly care for and help our minds grow. We want kids to know it's okay to talk about their feelings and emotions before society tells them that it's not.
Each week, we cover a different lesson about fostering a healthy mind. We make worksheets, Google Slides, and more to reinforce the lessons. Our Hawk Mentors go to different schools (previously on zoom) to make this program possible! In our "Lessons" page, you can find the lesson plans/resources that our Hawk Mentors created and use them for your own kids!
As mentors, we also answer all the questions that kids may have about school, life, and more! We love to share personal stories as examples in our lessons and will often finish with questions. The mentor approach works well because the kids really look up to the mentors and are excited to hear what they have to say. At the end of the day, we want to teach kids how to be kind to their minds as well as better understand themselves and others.

Where IT began...
When the world shut down, Lani Jacobson (a Senior Girl Scout) had just received approval to begin her Gold Award. Her original plan was a very hands on art and mental health initiative geared toward high-schoolers. When the pandemic wasn't going away, Lani went back to the drawing board. She knew that she wanted to stay true to her original plan and help people understand their mental health, especially in a time like quarantine. After some brainstorming, Lani felt called to work with elementary schoolers and came up with Hawk Mentors!
After finding the perfect team at LHHS, founder, Lani Jacobson, and her founding team established the club and worked to improve the mental health and growth of elementary school students in their area.
